Well, here we are number one. It’s been quite the year and for me, nothing topped the Deadpool screening during Amazing Arizona Comic Con. A few different things is what made it so memorable for me. I got to see the film in a theater full of die hard Deadpool fans and comic book creators. I saw people like Chad Hardin (Harley Quinn), Mat Nastos (Phineas & Ferb) and Rick Hoberg (Star Wars) sitting there waiting to experience the latest comic book film. Even before the film started, we were treated to what felt like a panel, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld spoke to the pact house for a good 20 minutes about the labors of getting the film into production as well as the history of the character.
Getting to watch the film in that setting on opening night was quite the experience. The audience even got signed swag which was a plus. I was staying at the host hotel across the street from the theater and on the way back after the film, I shared an elevator with Star Wars comic book artist Rick Hoberg, we talked about Deadpool for a minute, both agreed it was really good. While meeting people at cons or finding some cool merchandise will probably happen again over the next couple of years, seeing a film with the characters creator and other creators being in the same theater will probably never happen for me again, so this is why this was my number one con moment of 2016.
