As we inch closer to 2021, the thought of conventions returning grows. Whether or not some of our favorite pop culture events actually happen next year remains to be seen but facilities like the Phoenix Convention Center are taking the necessary steps to host events as safely as possible. This includes becoming GBAC STAR certified, which happened earlier this month according a press release from the convention center.
“The Phoenix Convention Center is the first public venue in Arizona to receive GBAC STAR™ accreditation. Recognized as the gold standard of safe venues, GBAC STAR™ provides third-party validation to ensure the implementation of rigorous protocols in response to biorisk situations. The GBAC Accreditation program enables facilities to maximize product use and best practices for sanitization and train staff to implement them at the level needed to thoroughly sterilize and clean environments in the era of Covid-19.”
What is GBAC STAR? According to its website: “The GBAC STAR Accreditation Program is performance-based and designed to help facilities establish a comprehensive system of cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention for their staff and their building. The program relies on GBAC’s comprehensive training, which teaches the proper protocols, correct disinfection techniques, and cleaning best practices for biohazard situations like the novel coronavirus.
Successful GBAC STAR facilities are able to demonstrate that correct work practices, procedures and systems are in place to prepare, respond, and recover from outbreaks and pandemics.”
The Phoenix Convention Center is also removing as many touchpoints as possible which is highlighted on this graphic (to view the whole presentation, click here)
Again, it’s too soon to say if we will be able to enjoy our favorite pop culture conventions next year but it is nice to see facilities like the Phoenix Convention Center do all it can to provide a safe environment for these conventions to be held at.
