Starting tomorrow, DesignerCon kicks off a three day event at the Anaheim convention center. What is DesignerCon? According to their About section, it states “Designer Con is an annual art and design convention that smashes together collectible toys and designer goods with urban, underground and pop art! DCon is over 350,000 sq. ft. and features over 500 vendors, art & custom shows, live demonstrations, and much more! The show coordinators strive to provide a fun, safe, comfortable environment for fans, artists, and vendors to meet.”
This is my first year attending DesignerCon, or how they refer to themselves: DCon. I will only be in attendance Saturday but I am still pretty excited to attend this convention that looks to be a little bit of a different experience compared to a comic convention. Here are three things I am excited for!
Unique Vendors
Like mentioned above, DCon boasts over 500 vendors which many of them are not your typical comic convention vendor. Comic convention exhibit floors have been over run by mystery boxes and Funko merchandise and while those are super popular and have their place with fans, I am ready to see some fresh stuff. I already know their will be Funko merchandise at DCon but I expect it to be limited, not every other booth.
I don’t typically buy much at conventions these days but I have a feeling I will have a bag of goodies after just one day at DCon.

The Art
After more than a decade of attending conventions, you see a lot of art and you build up a bias of what actually interests you. From what I have heard, I will be like a kid in a candy store at DCon with all the unusual, colorful, and unique art on sale. Here are just a few examples I found on Instagram of artists who will be selling their stuff.
The Convention Center
You might think this is a lame thing to be excited about but the Anaheim Convention Center is really nice, clean, and spacious. I have attended WonderCon a few times at the ACC but I am looking forward to experiencing a new type of con there. Will there be cosplay photo shoots out front? What about food trucks? I don’t know the answer to either of those but I am looking forward to seeing the convention center being occupied by a different type of convention.
There will be more exciting things such as Mark Hamill being in attendance as well as rad vendors such as toddland and Steam Crow in attendance who I enjoy shopping their wares. Really pumped for this convention and if you are interested in seeing what it is all about, make sure to follow me on Twitter or Instagram for updates on Saturday!
