I took a break last week from the countdown but here we are, the last Thursday of 2017. What a year it has been!

#2 – Fandom Party at San Diego Comic-Con

I’ve never been big on attending parties during San Diego Comic-Con, not because I didn’t want but just because I never made time to. This year was a bit different and one of the parties I was lucky enough to attended was the Wikia Fandom party. It was held at the rooftop bar, Float, at the Hard Rock Cafe in San Diego. The party was open to the first 300 people or so to register plus invited guests. The party featured few “celebrities” running around, catered food, open bar, and a concert from one half of Outkast, Big Boi. It was a great experience, it was like a little slice of Hollywood life. It’s something I will always remember.

#1 – Completing my signature quest at San Diego Comic-Con

Yes, my top moment of 2017 is another moment from SDCC but this would have been my top moment of regardless of where it happened. I bought a comic book a few years ago that featured one of the earliest DC and Marvel crossovers featuring The Uncanny X-Men and The New Teen Titans. I loved everything about the book and decided to try to collect some of the signatures from the legends who worked on the book in some capacity. One by one I was able to get the signatures of Chris Claremont, George Perez, Marv Wolfman, and even the late Len Wein over the course of two years. The one person I wanted to get the most, Walt Simonson, rarely did west coast conventions. Thanks to IDW, Simonson was attending SDCC and I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to meet him and get the last signature. Well, I did and it was a great moment for me, my favorite of 2017.
