The Mesa Convention Center is holding the first annual Comic Media Expo in two weeks but the convention center is no stranger to comic conventions as it once held both Phoenix Comicon and Amazing Arizona Comic Con in the past.

If you’re new to attending a con in Mesa, hopefully this guide will help you out a little bit as to what to expect in the vicinity of the convention center as it is bit different from downtown Phoenix or Glendale.

Parking/Transportation

The Mesa Convention Center provides free parking!

I don’t believe the public light rail has been completed in this part of Mesa but the Valley Metro bus system is available to use as well.

Food

You don’t have a crazy amount of food options in downtown Mesa but you do have variety and some really good favorite local spots are around.

Walking Distance
Pete’s Fish & Chips
Haven Burgers
Republica Empanada
Sweet Cakes Cafe

Outside of Walking Distance
Organ Stop Pizza: The food is okay but you go for the experience more so than the food. It is not open during lunch so this might a good post con dinning adventure.
Lenny’s Burgers
Raising Cane’s

Hotels

Your best bet is to book a room at the special CMX rate at the Marriott Hotel which is just a skip away from the convention center. Rooms are still available at the time of this posting for $102 a night, which for a Marriott is a great price.

Other options include Comfort Inn & Suites downtown Mesa and Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Phoenix-Mesa/Chandler.
