I’ve been going back and forth on this for a few weeks now. Deciding to essentially end this hobby of writing about and documenting Arizona convention experiences after 12 years. That isn’t an easy decision but I do think it is time to put down the metaphorical pencil.
I’ll spare you a wordy article that summarizes my 12 years of convention coverage but I will mention a few things and people. Firstly, my kiddo, who has been on this journey since the start whether he wanted to or not. Sitting through panels where “people just talk” and walking for what felt like forever through exhibit halls, he always made these events even more entertaining.
A big thank you to Jimmy Jay, the architect of Amazing Comic Con. It’s been well documented on my socials over the years that he was the first con organizer to give me a media badge when I was just a few months into this. Attending Amazing Arizona Comic also lead to connecting with legendary comic creator Rob Liefeld who would routinely share my work with his audience on Twitter, I always thought this was so cool and appreciated it to no end.
My next thanks goes out to two people: Kerry from The San Diego Comic-Con Unofficial Blog and Shawn from Parks and Cons. Both were highly influential in how I wrote and covered conventions. There is an art to coverage, how to express your thoughts and opinions while keeping things professional. This was all learned over time thanks to my relationship with both of them.
To all the conventions in Arizona who allowed me to cover their conventions with press credentials over the years, thank you!
Lastly, but certainly not least, THANK YOU. You, the individual reading this, you were the ones keeping this going for as long as it did. The comments, the engagement, meeting you in person, it was the best part of all of this. I was even lucky enough to make a few friends out of all this.
This might be the end of Legion of Sand but my convention days personally are not over. I’ll still attend the conventions that I enjoy and not attend out of a feeling of obligation. My personal Instagram is open to friend requests if you’re interested in keeping up with my adventures of just day to day life. Not sure what I will do with the Legion of Sand Twitter and Instagram but for now, they will just stay put.
One final sign off. Thanks.
As a total random, thanks for the good times w/ the blog. I’ve enjoyed your coverage.
Thank you!!
